Key Biscayne is getting a new wind-and-water sports hub at Crandon Park.

PADL Wind Club, a statewide outdoor recreation operator, will hold its grand opening on Sept. 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. at 6767 Crandon Blvd. The club offers kitesurfing, wing foiling, paddleboard and kayak rentals, plus kiteboarding and wing foiling lessons, according to its Adventure Sports USA listing.

The party promises paella and beer, kitesurfing films and giveaways from PADL, Adventure Sports USA, and gear brands Cabrinha and Dakine, the Islander News reported. The Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce is promoting the event, according to a Yodel listing.

PADL Won Concession Through Competitive County Bidding Process

The venue has a backstory. PADL won the Crandon Park watersports concession through Miami-Dade County's competitive bidding process, Solicitation EVN0039676. The company scored 241 points, edging out Adventure Sports Inc. at 238, Miami Kiteboarding at 214 and Eastern Watersports at 177, according to a community update from Adventure Sports USA.

Former Operator Pledges Support for Transition

Kent Marinkovic, CEO of Adventure Sports USA, the previous concession operator, wrote in that update that his company had met with PADL's leadership to discuss Crandon Park's operational needs. "By all accounts, PADL is well qualified, committed to operating a successful program, and has dedicated significant resources toward that objective," Marinkovic wrote.

Adventure Sports said it would support the transition through event collaboration, instructor and safety expertise and community outreach. The company previously helped reopen Crandon Park to kiteboarding after access had been lost, according to the same update.

PADL operates several other Miami-area locations, including clubs at Virginia Key and Pelican Harbor, according to the company's website.

Opening Coincides With 25th Anniversary of Sept. 11

The grand opening falls on the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11. Key Biscayne's remembrance ceremony begins at 8:20 a.m. at the Civic Center's Monaco Fountain, with remarks from Mayor Joe I. Rasco and retired FDNY Capt. Robert Senator, the Islander News reported. The PADL event starts five hours later.
