Miami-Dade County Public Schools opened magnet program applications for 2026-2027 on Aug. 15, just two days into the new school year, with MAST Academy on Virginia Key among the options for Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove families.

Proposed Florida rule would let parents opt children in or out of classroom AI tools

The Florida Department of Education's proposed AI safety rule would give parents at Key Biscayne K-8, MAST Academy, and Carver Middle the right to opt children in or out of classroom AI tools, ban apps that simulate friendships, and require districts to publish approved-tool lists and maintain student interaction logs. A public workshop is set for Wednesday, Aug. 5, with a January 2027 compliance deadline if adopted.

Miami-Dade superintendent search narrows to Villalobos and Lozano
