Miami Slice, the New York-style pizza shop known for hour-long lines at its downtown location, is targeting a late August or early September opening at 2996 McFarlane Rd. in Coconut Grove, directly across from CocoWalk.

The new location fills a space that sat empty for more than a year after Harry's Pizzeria closed in May 2025. Harry's, part of the Genuine Hospitality Group behind Michael's Genuine, had operated at that address since 2015.

Miami New Times Food & Drink Editor Nicole Lopez-Alvar wrote in the outlet's August restaurant openings guide, published Monday, August 3, that her sources point to a late-summer debut. "All signs point to pizza lovers in Coconut Grove getting their first slices sooner rather than later," she wrote.

The Miami Herald confirmed the Coconut Grove expansion on February 25, calling it Miami Slice's second location. Since then, the brand has also launched a pop-up inside Flour & Weirdoughs in Key Biscayne and a location at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, making the Grove spot its first standalone outside downtown Miami.

Miami Slice currently operates its original restaurant at 1335 NE Miami Ct. in downtown Miami, open Wednesday through Monday from 5 to 11 p.m. The restaurant takes walk-ins only with no reservations and limited seating at a slice bar. Time Out Miami ranked it No. 4 on its best pizza list, noting the crust comes out leopard-spotted and well charred, with toppings like hot honey and stracciatella drawing crowds willing to wait an hour or more.

The McFarlane Road corridor is seeing a wave of new tenants. Levain Bakery, the New York City cookie shop, is also slated to open at 2979 McFarlane Rd. with a date still to be determined this fall. The Grove's dining scene has been active this summer: Greek restaurant Manoli opened July 22 on Main Highway.

Miami Slice has not announced whether the Coconut Grove location will follow the same walk-in-only format as downtown.
