A white van crashed into an unoccupied Miami Police decoy vehicle on the outbound Rickenbacker Causeway on Thursday morning, Oct. 29.

The crash happened just beyond the William Powell Bridge on the outbound Rickenbacker Causeway. Witnesses reported the collision to Islander News, which first reported the story.

The Miami Police Department's Public Information Office confirmed the vehicle struck was a decoy and that no one was inside it.

"Preliminary information suggests that the driver suffered from a medical-related episode which … caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the decoy PD vehicle," police said, according to Islander News.

Video recorded by Islander News staffer Mariella Oliva showed the damaged van facing against the direction of traffic. The police decoy vehicle sustained significant front-end damage.

Police did not immediately provide information about the driver's condition or say whether anyone else was injured. The crash remains under investigation.

Residents who witness a crash or emergency on the Rickenbacker Causeway can call 911.
