Registration for the 25th anniversary Life Time Miami Marathon opens Sunday, Aug. 2, and if last year is any guide, Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne runners shouldn't wait. The 2026 race sold out in roughly two weeks after registration opened.
The Jan. 31, 2027, marathon will send runners through Coconut Grove and out the Rickenbacker Causeway toward Key Biscayne before looping back through Brickell to finish at Bayfront Park, according to the Miami Herald. The USATF-certified, flat course qualifies runners for the Boston Marathon.
Organizers expect participants from across the United States and more than 80 countries. The field is expected to include 51 runners who have completed every edition since the inaugural race drew about 3,400 participants on Feb. 2, 2003.
"When we started this race 25 years ago, we believed Miami could become one of the world's great running cities," co-founder Frankie Ruiz said in a statement.
Race weekend schedule
Race weekend kicks off Friday, Jan. 29, with the Miami Famous Expo at Mana Wynwood Convention Center (318 N.W. 23rd St.), a two-day event expected to draw more than 36,000 runners, spectators and vendors. The Life Time Tropical 5K follows Saturday, Jan. 30, one day before the marathon and half-marathon.
Kids Run Miami brings youth to the finish line
More than 1,200 Miami-Dade County students will cap their own marathon journey on race day. The free Kids Run Miami program has elementary and middle school students train from October through January, logging 25.2 miles over 15 to 16 weeks before running the Final Mile at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31 alongside thousands of adult finishers.
Every kid earns a medal.
What Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne residents should know
Based on the 2026 race, Coconut Grove streets were closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Rickenbacker Causeway, Key Biscayne's only road access, was closed from 6:30 a.m. to noon. Official 2027 closure times have not been announced, but similar windows are expected.
Registration and race details are available at themiamimarathon.com. The Tropical 5K, half-marathon and full marathon all open for sign-up Sunday, Aug. 2.
