The Key Biscayne Community Center (KBCC) holds its fifth youth air hockey tournament Friday, Sept. 11, with a $25 gift certificate for the winner and registration closing at 4:15 p.m.

David Plotkin, youth program coordinator and camp director for the Village of Key Biscayne, organized the double-elimination event. He told the Islander News he expects a bigger turnout than the 20 kids who played in the previous tournament.

"It's a fast paced game with a lot of eye coordination," Plotkin said.

Two brackets split the evening. A younger group starts at 5 p.m., and the 13-to-16 bracket begins at 8 p.m. The Islander News reported the younger bracket covers ages 8 to 12, though the listing also referenced age 17. Both brackets are double elimination.

Plotkin said parents have become enthusiastic spectators at past tournaments. "A lot of parents love watching their kids play," he said. "The kids and the parents always have fun."

Registration closes at 4:15 p.m. Friday at the KBCC front desk. The cost is $7 for nonmembers. Members play free.
