Three Key Biscayne residents run businesses spanning real estate, fashion and risk consulting with clients across the Americas and Europe.

Key Biscayne Magazine profiled realtor-author Maraly Cabán, cashmere designer Angela Horton and artist-entrepreneur Dafne Heinzmann in a Tuesday, Sept. 1, feature by Anja Maltav. All three women moved to the island at different points over the past two decades and built brands with international reach while raising families there.

Cabán, a Puerto Rico native who arrived in Miami in 1988, moved to Key Biscayne about 20 years ago while raising two daughters. She now leads a real estate advisory firm focused on Miami pre-construction for Latin American investors and a coaching platform called Selling To Her, which trains sales teams to understand female buyers.

Her book by the same name reached No. 1 in Amazon's business school guides category within four days of launch, according to her website. She is expanding into coursework and speaking engagements and building a real estate team.

"The problem is not how many opportunities you have," Cabán told Key Biscayne Magazine. "It's how many you may be losing without knowing why."

Horton grew up in Oklahoma City, where a grandmother's hand-knit cashmere poncho sparked her interest in textiles. She spent 19 years in New York and 30 years total in fashion, including six years as managing director at Frette from 1999 to 2005.

She launched her own cashmere company in 2005 and later designed a children's capsule collection for Porthault in Paris. Her retail accounts have included Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Stanley Korshak, according to her LinkedIn profile. She and her family relocated to Key Biscayne five years ago.

Heinzmann, who is Argentine-Bolivian, first visited Key Biscayne in 1997 through family trips. She and her husband settled on the island full-time in 2012. She runs two businesses: Dafne Heinzmann LLC, a fashion brand founded in 2022 that works with artisans in Bolivia, Argentina and the United States, and MIC Worldwide, a risk-mitigation firm she co-directs with her husband.

Her earlier career included a programming and acquisitions role at Discovery Communications from 1998 to 2001. In 2025, she published a photography book called "Ethereal Moments." Her work spans painting, collage and hand-painted silk, exhibited across the U.S., Europe and Latin America.
