Ten people were pulled from a boat taking on water near the Rickenbacker Causeway on Friday night, July 31, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed.

Crews from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach responded to the disabled vessel in the waters just off Key Biscayne's only road link to the mainland. Personnel stayed with the boat and its passengers until a commercial salvage team arrived, WPLG Local 10 reporter Ryan Mackey first reported.

The salvage crew towed the vessel to Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove.

No injuries were reported. The waters near the Rickenbacker Causeway are among the busiest boating corridors for Key Biscayne residents heading to and from the mainland, and recreational traffic on Biscayne Bay peaks during summer months.

The Coast Guard's Southeast District posted about the rescue on X on Friday:

@USCGSoutheast: "Station Miami Beach assisted a boat taking in water w/ 10 people aboard near Rickenbacker Causeway, Fri. Commercial salvage arrived & towed the vessel to Dinner Key Marina. Our crews are ready to help 24/7. We can be reached on VHF Ch. 16 or by calling 911."

The agency did not release details about the type of vessel, what caused it to take on water, or the identities of those aboard.

The Coast Guard did not announce any investigation into what caused the vessel to flood. Mariners in distress can hail the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 or call 911.
