Chef Clay Conley's celebrated Palm Beach restaurant Buccan has opened at 100 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, filling 10,000 square feet with three dining concepts. It is the first time the Michelin Guide-recognized brand has expanded beyond Palm Beach County, putting a destination restaurant within a short drive of Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne.

Buccan opened in mid-April. Imoto, the Japanese sister concept, followed in June. Both occupy a single new mixed-use building developed by MAS^AJP, a joint venture between Mas Group and AJP Ventures. The Buccan Sandwich Shop holds a third storefront in the same building, though its opening status could not be independently confirmed.

The Coral Gables location marks Conley's first Miami-Dade restaurant since he left Azul at the Mandarin Oriental Miami in 2010, and the first expansion of the Buccan brand since he opened the Palm Beach original in January 2011.

Three concepts, separate entrances

Buccan and the Sandwich Shop face Miracle Mile. Imoto enters from Galiano Street. The flagship features an exhibition kitchen, a spacious bar, a lounge and a private dining room. Imoto has a sushi counter and an eight-seat bar.

The Buccan menu carries over signature dishes from the Palm Beach location: tuna crisps, steak tartare, short rib empanada, sweet corn agnolotti and the hot-dog panini made with sauerkraut, Gruyère, mustard and chili. Imoto's Coral Gables menu mirrors its Palm Beach counterpart with Peking duck tacos, miso-marinated black cod, A5 Wagyu ribeye and crispy rice tuna.

"Buccan is lively and energetic, Imoto is sexy and intimate. And the Sandwich Shop is just damn good," Conley told Modern Luxury in a July profile.

The chef and the building

Conley grew up in Limerick, Maine, rose to culinary director of Todd English's Olives Group by age 29, and has been a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef in the South seven times, most recently in 2024. In an April interview with Miami New Times, he said the team had tried to bring Buccan to Coral Gables once before but the deal fell through.

The building sits on a parcel AJP Ventures purchased for $8.3 million in 2014, previously home to a three-story office occupied by SunTrust Bank and H&R Block. Coral Gables firm Behar Font & Partners is the architect of record.

Daniel Diaz Leyva, Florida real estate chair at Day Pitney and counsel to MAS^AJP, said in April that the project reflects high-end restaurants following their clientele south into Miami-Dade.
