The association coordinates 10 regattas annually between September and June through five member clubs: Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, Coconut Grove Sailing Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, Key Biscayne Yacht Club and Miami Yacht Club.

According to the BBYRA website, the series includes PHRF handicap racing, one-design classes, J/24s, VX Ones, Etchells and Finns. The association also offers separate fall, winter and spring championship awards in addition to its annual series honors.

Both events have no registration fee, according to BBYRA. Coral Reef Yacht Club serves as the organizing authority and host club.

The club, founded in 1955, is located at 2484 S. Bayshore Drive in Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood. It is one of five BBYRA member clubs that coordinate racing throughout the season.

The association's championship schedule also includes events hosted by Key Biscayne Yacht Club in December, Coral Reef Yacht Club in January and Miami Yacht Club in February.

Sailing lessons available for beginners

Residents interested in learning to sail before entering competitive events have opportunities through Team Paradise, a nonprofit based at the U.S. Sailing Center in Coconut Grove.

Founded by Magnus Liljedahl, an Olympic gold medalist in the Star sailing class, Team Paradise offers sailing instruction for youth and adults, including programs designed to make sailing accessible to people with disabilities.

According to U.S. Sailing, 70% of Team Paradise's youth sailors receive scholarships, while its veterans' sailing program is fully subsidized.

Sailors interested in the 2026-27 championship series can register through the BBYRA website, which also provides notices of race, sailing instructions and information about upcoming events.
