Two people were pulled from the water Tuesday afternoon after their personal watercraft began sinking near Government Cut, the shipping channel near Key Biscayne.

Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a report around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 of a green and white personal watercraft taking on water with two people aboard, according to WSVN. Watchstanders diverted a Coast Guard Station Miami Beach crew aboard a 36-foot response boat.

That crew arrived alongside a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue vessel and together pulled both people from the water.

No one was injured.

The crew towed the watercraft and transported both people to Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne. A Coast Guard press release confirmed no injuries or medical concerns were reported.

The rescue is the second water emergency in the Key Biscayne area in just over two weeks. On Aug. 2, the Coast Guard rescued 10 people from a separate sinking vessel near the Rickenbacker Causeway, towing that boat to Dinner Key Marina.

Coast Guard officials reminded boaters to always wear a properly fitted life jacket and ensure vessels carry proper safety and communication equipment. The agency's standing guidance also urges boaters to keep their engine cutoff switch attached while underway and to never boat under the influence of alcohol.

Residents who witness a boating emergency can contact the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 or by calling 305-535-4300 (Coast Guard Sector Miami).
