Students in grades 2 through 8 at Key Biscayne K-8 Center get out one hour early every Wednesday for the full 2026-27 school year, a recurring schedule that reshapes after-school logistics for island families through June 3, 2027.

The weekly early-release day is part of the 2026-27 Miami-Dade County Public Schools calendar approved by the school board. Classes began Aug. 13 at Key Biscayne K-8, MAST Academy on Virginia Key and George Washington Carver Middle School in Coconut Grove. The early release applies only to K-8 Center students in grades 2-8 and elementary students in grades 2-5 districtwide. It does not apply to kindergartners, first graders, or students at standalone middle and high schools such as MAST Academy and Carver Middle.

The district has not published the exact dismissal clock time for early-release Wednesdays at Key Biscayne K-8; families should confirm with the school's front office.

When each grading period begins and ends

The first grading period ends Oct. 16. The second runs Oct. 19 through Jan. 14, 2027. The third spans Jan. 19 to March 19, 2027, and the fourth begins March 30, 2027, ending on the last day of school: June 3, 2027.
