Key Biscayne will mark 35 years as an incorporated village with a community festival on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The Village of Key Biscayne, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation (KBCF), and the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting the event, which will feature a Vendor Village open to local businesses, nonprofits, and creators, according to a KBCF announcement published Friday, Aug. 28.
The KBCF said the Vendor Village will spotlight island businesses and organizations. Organizers have not yet announced a specific location, entertainment lineup, or admission details.
The island became its own municipality on June 18, 1991, after residents pushed for local control over development, greater retention of tax revenue and improved public safety, according to the Village's history page. Key Biscayne was the first new municipality in Miami-Dade County in more than 50 years. Residents at the time sought to shape their own zoning decisions on the barrier island rather than rely on county government.

Vendors interested in a booth can register at kbcf.org/35years. The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 4.
