Ransom Everglades sophomore Esha Nagalla shot a school-record 6-under-par 64 on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Palmetto Golf Course, winning the individual title and powering the Raiders to their second consecutive Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Golf Championship.
Nagalla's 64 on the par-70 course beat runner-up Daniella Hernandez of Palmer Trinity by three strokes, as first reported by the Miami Herald. Ransom Everglades' girls team posted a 282, six strokes ahead of second-place Carrollton at 288. Downtown Doral finished third at 293.
Teammates help Raiders secure second straight title
Three teammates backed Nagalla's record round. Junior Ella Wester shot a 71 to tie for sixth individually. Sophomore Nina Fischer carded a 72, while Lillian Liu added a 75.
Nagalla's performance marked a sharp improvement from the Palm League Championship on Sept. 14 at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, where she shot an even-par 71. Fischer won the individual title at that tournament.
Ransom Everglades boys finish runner-up
On the boys side, the Raiders placed second with a 288, four strokes behind champion Columbus at 284. Columbus sophomore Sebastian Eterovic matched Nagalla's 64 to claim the boys individual title in what the Herald described as one of the lowest scores in Youth Fair golf history.
Cole Durham led the Ransom Everglades boys with a 1-under 69 to finish as the individual runner-up. Axel Monssoh and Zachary Fischer each shot a 72, while Pablo Muñoz Montes posted a 75.
MAST Academy, the Virginia Key magnet school that serves Key Biscayne, also competed. The Makos finished sixth in the boys division at 309 and 11th in the girls division at 391.
Twelve girls teams and more than 20 boys teams from across Miami-Dade County competed in the tournament.
