Road closures on Douglas Road and Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove will block traffic Sunday, Oct. 4, for the Great Miami 10K.
About 2,000 runners and walkers are expected for the race, which starts at 7:30 a.m., according to event officials cited by WSVN. Closures begin at 6:30 a.m. and last until 10 a.m.
Douglas Road will shut down from Grand Avenue to Main Highway. Southbound Grand Avenue will also close from Douglas Road to Main Highway and McFarlane Road. Residents inside the closure zone will still be allowed to reach their homes, and police officers will be stationed along the course to direct traffic.
Detour routes
Southbound Douglas Road traffic will be diverted west or east onto Grand Avenue. Eastbound Grand Avenue traffic will be routed north onto Mary Street, east onto Tigertail Avenue, south onto Aviation Avenue and northeast onto South Bayshore Drive.
Race course
The flat, out-and-back course starts at Darwin Street and South Bayshore Drive and finishes at 3500 Pan American Drive, near Miami City Hall, according to the Great World Run Club, which organizes the event. The turnaround point is at Sunrise Drive.
The race is certified by USA Track & Field (USATF) and carries a cutoff time of two hours and five minutes. Strollers, bikes, scooters and pets other than service animals are prohibited on the course.
Getting there
Organizers strongly advise rideshare or carpooling. Two parking options sit near the finish line: Regatta Park Lot #62 and Regatta Harbour Park Garage at 3551 Pan American Drive.
Packet pickup runs Friday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Hangar at Regatta Harbour, 3385 Pan American Drive. Race-day registration costs $119.
