Key Biscayne Field Hockey Club midfielder Elena Somigliana earned a spot on the 2026 USA Field Hockey National Club Championship All-Star List.
USA Field Hockey announced the selections on July 13. The National Club Championship ran June 22–30 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, spanning nine days of competition across U-14, U-16 and U-19 girls' divisions.
Somigliana, a sophomore center midfielder at Coral Gables Senior High School, first picked up a field hockey stick at age five. Her family is of Argentine descent, and her mother introduced her to the sport. She has trained with the Key Biscayne club since childhood.
With the club, Somigliana has competed in five major tournaments: the USA Sunshine Showcase, the Jamboree Tournament, the USA National Naples Tournament, the Regional Club Championship and the National Club Championship. Across those events, she has won gold medals with her team or earned All-Star recognition, according to a CavsConnect profile published Sept. 22.
"When I saw my name written [on the list] I got really excited and wanted to show my friends and family," Somigliana told the student newspaper. "I felt really proud to represent my club and it made me want to keep training and become even better."
Somigliana practices two and a half hours per session, three times a week. A typical session includes an hour of conditioning and stick work, followed by passing, dribbling and defense drills. She told CavsConnect she sometimes gets home at 9 p.m. and still has homework waiting.
USA Field Hockey Director of Events Madeline Rascon said in the July 13 announcement that the All-Star honorees consistently elevated the level of play through their skill, determination and leadership.
Somigliana has set her sights on playing Division I field hockey in college, with the University of North Carolina among her top targets.
The Key Biscayne Field Hockey Club's 2026–27 season opened Sept. 8 and runs through April 16, 2027. The U16/U19 group practices Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–8:30 p.m., at MAST Academy under coach Florencia Manero.
