Coconut Grove small business owners wondering how to keep their best employees or plan an eventual exit can get free, practical guidance at a one-hour seminar on Monday, Aug. 31, at Miami Dade College's Gibson Education Center.

The Coconut Grove Business Improvement District announced the event on Aug. 11, billing it as a no-cost session covering two challenges that local independent shops face: retaining talented staff through competitive benefits and planning for ownership transitions.

The seminar is free.

Kimberly Gilgeours, executive director and founding member of The World Changers, a women-owned financial services firm based in Miami, will lead the session. The BID describes Gilgeours as having more than 25 years of experience helping business owners with succession planning, retirement strategies and generational wealth planning.

BID business communications liaison Bill Kress organized the seminar. In the announcement, Kress posed two questions facing Grove entrepreneurs: what happens when an owner steps away, and how to stop top employees from leaving.

The session runs from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Gibson Education Center, 3629 Grand Ave., six blocks south of CocoWalk in the heart of the Grove. The center is part of Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus outreach network and offers programs in entrepreneurship, small business development and digital marketing.

Registration details had not been posted as of Aug. 11. Business owners interested in attending can contact Kress at [email protected] or 305-763-2429, or reach Gilgeours directly at [email protected] or 516-506-2087.
