Sofia Coppola's 2006 film "Marie Antoinette" will receive a 20th-anniversary screening at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens on Wednesday, Oct. 28, one day before the Miami Film Festival's GEMS 2026 officially begins.

The outdoor screening starts at 7 p.m. at Vizcaya, 3251 S. Miami Ave., according to the festival's official program.

Starring Kirsten Dunst as the young French queen and Jason Schwartzman as King Louis XVI, the 123-minute film follows Marie Antoinette's life at Versailles. Coppola wrote and directed the historical drama, which became known for its elaborate costumes, contemporary soundtrack and unconventional approach to period filmmaking.

The anniversary screening is part of the festival's special programming leading into its fall showcase.

GEMS brings 50 films to Miami

Organized by Miami Dade College, the 13th Miami Film Festival GEMS runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 5, featuring 50 films from more than 20 countries.

"With 50 titles, this is the largest GEMS line-up yet," Lauren Cohen, the festival's director of programming, told Variety.

The festival opens Thursday, Oct. 29, with "The Debut," a musical comedy written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg and starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti.

The opening-night event takes place at the Koubek Center, with a reception at 6 p.m. and the screening at 8 p.m.

GEMS closes Nov. 5 with "Club Kid," written, directed by and starring Jordan Firstman.

The festival's program includes international films, awards-season contenders, filmmaker appearances and special events.

Historic Vizcaya provides setting for screening

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a National Historic Landmark overlooking Biscayne Bay, was built in the early 20th century as the winter estate of industrialist James Deering.

Its European-inspired architecture and formal gardens provide a distinctive setting for the anniversary presentation of Coppola's film, which depicts the elaborate royal court of 18th-century France.

The Oct. 28 screening precedes the festival's official opening and is listed as a special retrospective event.

Other GEMS venues include Coral Gables Art Cinema, the University of Miami's Cosford Cinema, the Koubek Center and Silverspot Cinema Downtown.

General festival screening tickets start at $16.50, according to Miami New Times. Prices for special events may differ.

Tickets and the full schedule are available through the Miami Film Festival.
